Head of Department of Turkish Education

History

In 1998, Atatürk Faculty of Education was restructured by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) together with all other faculties of education in the country. Among the reasons for the restructuring was the fact that the programs of faculties of education were becoming more and more similar to the programs of faculties of science and literature; the emergence of two faculties providing almost identical education; and the fact that the faculty members working in faculties of education did not work on educational sciences and were contented with field research only.

With the restructuring, students studying in programs that train teachers in secondary education social, science and mathematics fields were required to take their field courses in science and literature faculties. This process was experienced in the same way at Atatürk Faculty of Education. Thus, the faculty returned to its primary function to a significant extent.

The Department of Turkish Language Teaching [TÖABD] was established in the 1998 academic year and graduated its first students in 2002. The number of students graduated in the past 18 years is around 1700.

There are currently 3 professors and 2 lecturers on its staff.

The Turkish Language Teaching Program of our department accepts students through the Undergraduate Placement Examination conducted by ÖSYM every year. In Marmara University Turkish Language Teaching program, 82 students were admitted to the first education in TS-2 score type.
